Weather in Turkey by Months

Before talking about the general weather in Turkey by month, we need to know which regions Turkey consists of, otherwise the information we will give will be correct for some places and wrong for others. We should divide Turkey into 4 regions when it comes to weather:

  • Black Sea
  • Central Anatolia
  • Aegean and Mediterranean
  • East

Briefly speaking, a person who wants to visit Turkey should know that if he/she is going to the Black Sea region, it rains continuously in summer and winter. We should say that the Central Anatolia has a dry heat in the summer and a frosty cold in the winter. It would be correct to say that the eastern region is similar to the inner Anatolia, but the summers are even hotter and the winters even colder. The Aegean and Mediterranean climate can be said to have what we call a medium climate. Although they see very high temperatures in summer, they are generally the most average places.

Turkey is a country with different climatic zones due to its geographical location. For this reason, the weather in different parts of the country in different months can vary significantly. In this article, we will give information about the weather conditions in Turkey according to the months and explain the seasonal characteristics in different regions.

January and February

January and February are the months when winter is in full effect in most of Turkey. During these months, a mild and rainy climate usually prevails in the coastal regions, while the inland areas may experience colder and snowy weather. Especially in Eastern Anatolia and the Black Sea regions, heavy snowfalls can be observed. During this period, ski tourism is very popular in mountainous regions and ski resorts in these regions attract local and foreign tourists.

March and April

March and April represent the arrival of the spring season in Turkey. During these months, temperatures usually rise and the number of sunny days increases. However, some areas may still experience cold and rainy weather, especially in early March. On the south coast, temperatures usually start to rise in spring and sea water temperatures gradually rise. During this period, interest in tourist areas such as the southern coastline of the Mediterranean increases and vacationers flock to these areas to enjoy the sea and the sun.

May and June

May and June represent the end of spring and the beginning of summer in Turkey. During these months, temperatures usually rise higher and the number of sunny days increases. While the temperature is higher in the interior and southern regions, a milder climate can be seen in the coastal regions due to the sea effect. In May, various cultural events are organized in different regions of Turkey and natural wonders await visitors. June is one of the months when the high season starts in touristic regions and especially vacationers flock to the beaches.

July and August

July and August are the peak months of the hot summer months in Turkey. During these months, temperatures are usually high and the number of sunny days increases. In inland regions, temperatures can often exceed 35 degrees Celsius, while in coastal regions, temperatures are milder due to the sea effect. During these months, tourism activity peaks in the southern coastal regions and vacationers flock to the beaches to enjoy both the sea and the sun. In addition, many music festivals and entertainment events in Turkey take place during the summer months, a time when cultural and entertainment tourism comes to life.

September and October

September and October represent the end of summer and the beginning of autumn in Turkey. During these months, although temperatures are usually still mild, they drop over time and the number of sunny days decreases. In the interior, the natural wonders of autumn colors attract photography lovers, while in the coastal regions it can still be warm enough to swim in the sea. September also coincides with Turkey’s olive harvest and olive festivals are organized. October is one of the months when local and foreign tourists prefer Turkey for cultural excursions.

November and December
